    Software Verification and Graph Similarity for Automated Evaluation of Students' Assignments

    In this paper we promote introducing software verification and control flow graph similarity measurement in automated evaluation of students' programs. We present a new grading framework that merges results obtained by combination of these two approaches with results obtained by automated testing, leading to improved quality and precision of automated grading. These two approaches are also useful in providing a comprehensible feedback that can help students to improve the quality of their programs We also present our corresponding tools that are publicly available and open source. The tools are based on LLVM low-level intermediate code representation, so they could be applied to a number of programming languages. Experimental evaluation of the proposed grading framework is performed on a corpus of university students' programs written in programming language C. Results of the experiments show that automatically generated grades are highly correlated with manually determined grades suggesting that the presented tools can find real-world applications in studying and grading

    IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS

    Background: Numerous studies have suggested that 54%-100% of patients with IBS may have associated psychiatric illness and personality pathology. This transversal controlled study was realized in order to evaluate anxiety and depression levels, as well as the personality characteristics of patients with IBS and to compare the results obtained with patients with episodes of depression and healthy individuals. Subjects and methods: The experimental group consisted of 30 IBS patients, while two control groups consisted of the same number of inpatients with episodes of depression and healthy individuals from the general population. There were equal number of men and women in the study sample and all subjects were aged between 25 to 65 years. Standard psychometric instruments employed included Hamilton anxiety scale, Zung depression scale, Hamilton depression scale, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), Eysenck Perosonality Inventory (EPI). Results: The average Hamilton and Zung depression scores were significantly higher in patients with depressive episodes compared with the IBS patients, while the mentioned scores among them were also significantly higher compared with the healthy controls. There were no significant differences between IBS and the group with depressive episodes in the average Hamilton anxiety levels, EPI neuroticism and extraversion levels and MMPI neurotic scales levels (Hs, D, and Hy). The significant differences were observed comparing the IBS patients to healthy individuals. Conclusion: The patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome who asked for medical help (consulters) because of their intestinal symptoms, presented emotional problems such as depression and anxiety and expressed neurotic personality characteristics

    Novel phylogenetic algorithm to monitor human tropism in Egyptian H5N1-HPAIV reveals evolution toward efficient human-to-human transmission

    Years of endemic infections with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A subtype H5N1 virus in poultry and high numbers of infections in humans provide ample opportunity in Egypt for H5N1-HPAIV to develop pandemic potential. In an effort to better understand the viral determinants that facilitate human infections of the Egyptian H5N1-HPAIVvirus, we developed a new phylogenetic algorithm based on a new distance measure derived from the informational spectrum method (ISM). This new approach, which describes functional aspects of the evolution of the hemagglutinin subunit 1 (HA1), revealed a growing group G2 of H5N1-HPAIV in Egypt after 2009 that acquired new informational spectrum (IS) properties suggestive of an increased human tropism and pandemic potential. While in 2006 all viruses in Egypt belonged to the G1 group, by 2011 these viruses were virtually replaced by G2 viruses. All of the G2 viruses displayed four characteristic mutations (D43N, S120(D,N), (S,L)129Δ and I151T), three of which were previously reported to increase binding to the human receptor. Already in 2006–2008 G2 viruses were significantly (p<0.02) more often found in humans than expected from their overall prevalence and this further increased in 2009–2011 (p<0.007). Our approach also identified viruses that acquired additional mutations that we predict to further enhance their human tropism. The extensive evolution of Egyptian H5N1-HPAIV towards a preferential human tropism underlines an urgent need to closely monitor these viruses with respect to molecular determinants of virulence

    Serotype distribution, antimicrobial susceptibility and molecular epidemiology of invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae in the nine-year period in Serbia

    Streptococcus pneumoniae is one of the leading bacterial pathogens that can cause severe invasive diseases. The aim of the study was to characterize invasive isolates of S. pneumoniae obtained during the nine-year period in Serbia before the introduction of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) into routine vaccination programs by determining: serotype distribution, the prevalence and genetic basis of antimicrobial resistance, and genetic relatedness of the circulating pneumococcal clones. A total of 490 invasive S. pneumoniae isolates were included in this study. The serotype, antimicrobial susceptibility, and ST of the strains were determined by the Quellung reaction, disk- and gradient-diffusion methods, and multilocus sequence typing (MLST), respectively. The most common serotypes in this study were 3, 19F, 14, 6B, 6A, 19A, and 23F. The serotype coverages of PCV10 and PCV13 in children less than 2 years were 71.3 and 86.1%, respectively, while PPV23 coverage in adults was in the range of 85-96%, depending on the age group. Penicillin and ceftriaxone-non-susceptible isolates account for 47.6 and 16.5% of all isolates, respectively. Macrolide non-susceptibility was detected in 40.4% of isolates, while the rate of multidrug- and extensive-drug resistance was 20.0 and 16.9%, respectively. The MLST analysis of 158 pneumococci identified 60 different STs belonging to the 16 Clonal Complexes (CCs) (consisting of 42 STs) and 18 singletons. The most common CC/ST were ST1377, CC320, CC15, CC273, CC156, CC473, CC81, and CC180. Results obtained in this study indicate that the pre-vaccine pneumococcal population in Serbia is characterized by high penicillin and macrolides non-susceptibility, worrisome rates of MDR and XDR, as well as a high degree of genetic diversity. These findings provide a basis for further investigation of the changes in serotypes and genotypes that can be expected after the routine introduction of PCVs

    Estimating the soil erosion and deposition rate using 137Cs tracer method in the catchment of Drenova reservoir (B&H)

    There are many limitations associated with traditional approaches to estimation of soil erosion and deposition rates. Recently attention has been focused on 137Cs and successful usage of this isotope in soil erosion studies. This paper presents the results of measurements of 137Cs in soil profiles which were sampled within catchments of Drenova reservoir. The proportional model and a simplified version of the mass balance model were used to estimate the mean soil loss or deposition redistributions rates. The aim of this study is to estimate the soil erosion and deposition rates using 137Cs tracer model, as a support for the results obtained by empirical methodology.Postoje mnoga ograničenja povezana sa tradicionalnim pristupima procene erozije i iznosa akumulacije. U novije vreme pažnja je usmerena na 137Cs i uspešno korišćenje ovog izotopa u studijama o eroziji zemljišta i akumulaciji materijala. U ovom radu su prikazani rezultati merenja 137Cs u zemljištu profila koji su uzorkovani u slivu akumulacije Drenova. Proporcionalni model i pojednostavljena verzija modela bilansa mase korišćeni su za procenu gubitka zemljišta i iznosa akumulacije. Cilj ovog istraživanja je procena erozije zemljišta i iznosa akumulacije koristeći 137Cs kao traser, i to kao proveru i podršku rezultatima koji su dobijeni korišćenjem empirijskih metoda
